Data Science and Machine Learning

Vu Nguyen

Hello

I’ve had the privilege of serving in the Army for 11 years, including two deployments, where I led teams in diverse and high-pressure environments. These experiences have enhanced my leadership and problem-solving abilities, which I’m eager to apply alongside my technical expertise.

Currently, I’m pursuing a master’s degree in Applied Data Science at USC, focusing on machine learning, statistical analysis, and big data to solve complex challenges and drive informed decision-making. I’m proficient in Python, JavaScript, and creating interactive data visualizations using D3.js.

My coursework in machine learning, cloud computing, data visualization, and systems architecture enables me to bridge academic knowledge with real-world applications, particularly in operations research and systems analysis.

My Journey

I started my military career at Fort Sill, OK, attending Air Defense BOLC in 2013. I then moved to Camp Carroll, Korea, serving as a Platoon Leader from 2013 to 2014. My next assignment was at Fort Cavazos, TX, where I served as Executive Officer from 2014 to 2017 and deployed to Bahrain during that time. Following that, I continued my career at Fort Liberty, NC, completing the Civil Affairs CCC from 2017 to 2019. At Fort Bliss, TX, I took on the role of Assistance S3 in 2019, and later became Battery Commander from 2019 to 2021, during which I deployed as a Battery Commander to Iraq. My journey then led me to Fort Leavenworth, KS, where I worked as Operations Officer, MCTP, from 2021 to 2023. Currently, I am pursuing a master's degree as a Graduate Student at USC, Los Angeles, from 2023 to my anticipated graduation in 2025.
